Eucharist?

How does the body and blood of Jesus become our spiritual food and drink in the Holy Eucharist?
- Jesus instituted the Holy
Eucharist in order to nourish and strengthen our spiritual life.
- Through this sacrament Jesus gives us His own
body and blood as the nourishments for our soul.
- Jesus gives us His Body and Blood
in the form of bread and wine.
- Thus in the Holy Eucharist the
Body and Blood of Jesus becomes our spiritual food and drink.
- When we participate in the Holy
Mass, we must receive Holy Communion. Why?
- Since
the Holy Eucharist is a banquet, those who participate in it have to receive
the body and blood of Jesus with proper preparation and merit.
- Then only the banquet will be complete.
- Why do we call the Holy Eucharist,
the sacrament of Communion?
- The Holy Eucharist is the loving
banquet of Jesus giving salvation.
- In the loving banquet of the Holy
Eucharist, we also become one in Jesus.
- “There is only one bread and
hence, though we are many, we are one body”(1Cor:10:17)
- By our participation in the Holy
Eucharist, we become one in the body of the church. Thus, we call the Holy Eucharist, the sacrament of
Communion.
- When did the disciples who went to
Emmaus recognise Jesus?
- While disciples were at supper, Jesus took the bread, blessed it, broke it and
gave it to them.
- Then, their eyes were opened.
- They recognised Jesus.
- If we have committed mortal sins,
what must we do before receiving Holy Communion?
- We need
holiness to receive the body and blood of Jesus.
- Hence we have to examine ourselves whether we are in the state of
grace.
- We should not receive Holy Communion with mortal sin.
- We have to get forgiveness of sin through the sacrament of
reconciliation and receive Jesus with a pure heart.

receive Holy Communion with proper devotion?
- Be in a state of grace.
- Fast at least one hour before
receiving Holy Communion.

- How do all of us become one in
Jesus?
- Whoever
receives the body and blood of Jesus becomes participants of His divine life.
- The Holy Eucharist is a
banquet of mutual love and service.
- Those who eat of the same bread should live in communion.
- We must show mutual love
and friendship. Thus, all of us have become one in Jesus.
- What is perfect contrition
(perfect repentance)?
- The sorrow that comes from the fear of punishment for our sins and
hatred towards sin is not perfect repentance.
- They must lead us to perfect repentance.
- If our love towards Our God the loving Father is sincere, then our
repentance will be complete.

sin?
- Sin is
a violation of the commandments of God who is love Himself.
- When we sin, we lose divine life and we drift away from God’s
love.
- There are 2 types of sin: Mortal sin and Venial sin.
- If we violate God’s
commandments in a light manner, its venial sin.
- Similarly, if we violate God’s law in serious matters without
complete knowledge and consent, it is venial sin.
- When we violate God’s commandments in serious matters with
complete knowledge and consent, it is mortal sin.
- How do we get absolution for
mortal sins?
- What must we do to make our
reconciliation perfects?
- When we sin, we offend not only
God but also our parents, brothers,
sisters and others get offended by our sins
- When we reconcile ourselves with everyone whom
we have offended, then only, reconciliation is complete.

Lesson 11:The Anointing of the Sick
- Whom did Jesus heal in His public
life?
- During his public life, Jesus healed many people.
- Jesus had the power to heal the sick
- The lepers, the deaf and the blind had received healing from Jesus
and He touched, blessed and healed them
- Jesus also cast out many demons and set them free
- What is the teaching that the
apostle St. James gives on the Sacrament of the Anointing of the sick?
- “If one of you is ill, he should send for the elders of the church
and they must anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord and pray over him.
- The prayer of faith will
save the sick man and the Lord will
raise him up again;
- if he has committed any
sin, he will be forgiven.”

- A priest is specially chosen from
among the people, for the people and appointed for their service.

administration of sacraments and shepherding, and fulfil his duties
- What is common priesthood?
- Jesus is the eternal father. In baptism, all of us share in his
priesthood.
- We fulfil this priestly mission by studying the word of God, and
teaching them, partaking in the sacraments, especially, the Holy Mass and
leading an exemplary Christian life.

all the Christian faithful, common priesthood or royal priesthood.

- The most important factors in marriage are mutual love and
faithfulness between husband and wife.

relationship between Jesus and the church.

- In marriage, God entrusts
the husband and wife with the responsibility to beget (reproduce) children and
to bring them up as Hid good children.

- God’s blessings are showered abundantly upon the family formed
through the sacrament of marriage.
- Parents are the representatives of God. Children are God’s gift.
- God protects and blesses the family through parents.

children love their parents.

- Sacraments were instituted by Jesus, whereas sacramentals are
instituted by the Church.
- Different sacramentals were instituted according to the needs of
the church communities.

situations of the faithful.
- Through these we and our life situations are sanctifies and we are
empowered by God’s grace.

sacramentals, the most important one is the blessing of the holy Myron. It is
the bishop who blesses it.
- In the Sacrament of Anointing, this holy oil is used.

blessings the water and oil of Baptism and also in the anointing of bishops and
priests, if the practice exists.

- Sacramentals
are a very good means to make life blessed.
- Let us try to receive the sacramentals with proper preparation and
faith and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
- What is prayer?
- Jesus taught us how to pray and what to pray for (Matthew 6:5-15).
- Prayer is a loving conversation with God,
- In prayer, Jesus used to talk to His Father.
- When He prayed in the synagogues, in the desert, on mountain tops
and in Gethsemane, He was conversing with His Father.

- We get
divine power and blessings in prayer.
- Jesus spoke of the fruits
of prayer: Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it
shall be opened.(Luke11:10).

much more will he give his Holy Spirit to those who ask my Father (Luke11:13)
- How does the grace from prayer
help us in our Christian life?
- The grace that we obtain in prayer strengthens us to overcome
temptations and to do good.
- Hence Jesus said to his disciples “Pray vigilantly so that you may
not fall into temptations”.
- We need a lot of strength
to lead a true Christian life.
- Let us strive to empower ourselves with prayer and thus lead a
life pleasing to Jesus.
